the hawk is howling
tonight would have been the mogwai show. but it has been postponed due to an illness in the band (their drummer having a problem with his pacemaker, ouch!).i got their newest album, released today. it is the limited edition that includes a dvd.
after a day of school, i am feeling too sleepy right now to listen to this. but to be honest, i don't care what it sounds like; if it is a mogwai release, i will like it.
i also picked up a copy of the popmontreal program. it even comes with a sampler cd.
i am missing most of this. but it doesn't really matter. i have been so out of touch, i have no idea who these bands are.

lunático
on friday, i met up with some friends at the mont-royal metro station, to go eat at aux vivres (it was delicious!). but i had gotten there early, so i browsed the shelves at l'échange. i saw gotan project's "lunático". since i don't have anything resembling tango in my collection, i got this.it was a total impulse buy.

young team
earlier this year, there was a re-release of mogwai's decade-old debut album "young team", remastered, with a second disc containing non-album tracks and live material. i felt foolish getting it then, since i already have the original release. and i don't care much for the live tracks.finally, i gave in to the curiosity, so i checked out the second disc. i immediately fell in love with the non-album tracks. damn, why did those songs have to be so good?
i couldn't help myself. so i got the re-release today, along with my other purchases. i suppose mogwai are my current obsession, especially since i will be seeing them live (for the fourth time) in one week. the excitement begins.
the re-release comes with a cardboard cover:
they also slightly changed the cover image:

who killed amanda palmer
today was the release of "who killed amanda palmer" by amanda palmer, one half of the dresden dolls. to be honest, i don't think this sounds any different from her songs with the dresden dolls, the same dark cabaret kind of songs.
the back cover has an amusing fake article about her death.

hypnagogic states ep
the official release date for the cure's "hypnagogic states ep" was on the 13th, keeping their trend of releasing new material on the 13th of each month. tuesday being the usualy day for new releases, i got this ep today.
it contains the four singles from the new album, remixed by new emo stars (members of 30 seconds to mars, afi, my chemical romance & julien-k, fall-out boy). the final track "exploding head syndrome" is a 20-minute megamix of the four singles, done by 65daysofstatic; i love it.
"all artist royalties from this release will benefit the international red cross."

the stills @ concordia
the final event of concordia frosh was a free outdoors concert. the stills played a set. i went with roxanne and laurel. luckily, we arrived just in time to see them begin.they mostly played new material, which i am not familiar with. one song i recognised from the first album was "lola stars and stripes". they did not play "still in love song" (my favourite); perhaps that would have been too obvious? they ended with a rock 'n roll-ish song, i think it was "rooibos/palm wine drunkard".
