i still have that gift card (for my birthday) from a month ago that i hadn't started spending yet.

earlier this week, i passed by hmv and saw another new album "traces" by dumas. i wasn't expecting this, since i thought his series was done. but the 13 tracks on this album are numbered from 44 to 56, so it was obviously a continuaton. however, the titles were very familar, so i sampled a few songs at the listening station, and realized that these were re-arranged versions of the same songs taken from his last releases. i was confused: was this a compilation, remix album, what?

it turns out that this album contains the final mix of the songs. i guess his previous outputs were kind of like (well produced) demos or something.

i got the cd yesterday, and have listened to it a couple of times.

my favourite track is "un train dans la nuit (café froid, gardénal)". i even like this version better, with the additonal stringed instruments and all:

au bout du monde

a bit of a cd shopping spree.

i am now unemployed, having left my job to go back to school. except that i am not officially registered until january 2010. so i have a couple of months of free time.

regina spektor, dumas

before the beirut show last week, during the afternoon, i went by hmv to get regina spektor's new album, "far", that was released last month. i got the cd+dvd version, of course.

while at the store, i also saw dumas' new album, "demain", a continuation of the series. from the overall picture, it seems like there will be another release.

even though it's been a week, i haven't had much time to listen to these new purchases yet...

dumas - rouge

hier, je suis passée par le magasin de disque, et oh! un nouvel album de dumas, "rouge".

évidemment, "rouge" est la suite de "nord", vu que les pièces sont numérotées de 10 à 19.

la conception graphique sur les pochette fait croire qu'il y aura surement un troisième disque, à venir... au printemps, peut-être?

à la première écoute, déjà, j'aime bien ces nouvelles chansons. ma préférée étant "un train dans la nuit". belles voix.

dumas

on dirait que je suis sur un petit trip de musique franco, ces temps-ci...

en lisant le délit la semaine dernière, j'ai appris que dumas a lancé un album surprise le mois dernier.

je me rappelle avoir adoré son deuxième album "le cours des jours", avec ma pièce préférée "j'erre", une pièce qui s'écoute très bien, ces jours-ci.

même si son précédent "fixer le temps" m'a un peu déçue, je me suis procuré son plus récent "nord".

je l'écoute en ce moment. j'aime bien.

dumas, damien rice

the semester ends; panic. sleepness nights, worrying and working on a term project. today, all schoolwork is done and handed in. exhaustion. relief.

i think i've been feeling stressed lately, without realizing it. i've been skipping meals. i've felt like crying from reading newspaper articles. with this sudden feeling of relief, i had to go shopping after school.

... and so i got music to cry to.

first surprise: dumas has a new album out. i've not listened to any radio; i did not know that he had new material out. i sampled a few tracks of "fixer le temps" at the listening booth, and liked it enough. it's singer-songwriter stuff, kind of sad, yet kind of upbeat too.

second surprise: i am in love with damien rice's new album, "9". i saw it released a few weeks ago, but only heard the songs today at the listening booth. after hearing the first couple of tracks, i knew i had to get this disc. the first track "9 crimes" alone is worth getting the entire album. it's one of those simple/beautiful songs. starts off with light piano, calm, vocals full of emotion, then cello is added, the song builds up to something dramatic. or maybe this song is just affecting me so, at this time, given my current state of mind. anyway, listen to the song and watch the somewhat creepy video at his website. (for some reason, i was expecting her to become a real person. but the ending of the video turned out to be more tragic.)
