armistice, pierre lapointe
last week, my cousin sent me an article on armistice, with song samples. after hearing "mission bells", the song was in my head for days. yesterday was the release date for their self-titled ep, so i went to the store to get it. so yes, this is my second couple-duo purchase of the year.
the vocals go well together. and i like the mariachi sounds, which sets this apart from their respective projects.
while at the store, i saw that pierre lapointe has a new release, "seul au piano". i usually do not care for live recordings, especially when there is no new material on it. it was available at the listening station so i checked it out.
oh wow. after hearing the solo piano version of "deux par deux rassemblés", i was sold. even though this release has no new material, the songs sound so different from the original albums versions, "seul au piano" is worth getting.

let's compare one of my favourite tracks, "deux par deux rassemblés".
original version, from the album "la forêt des mal-aimés":

i like the funny bit (at around 1:15) on "au bar des suicidés", when he mimics the guitar solo:

pierre lapointe, metric
i went to the store on tuesday to check out the new releases.i saw a new album by pierre lapointe, "sentiments humains" accompanied by an ep "les vertiges d'en haut". hm, lots of instruments on this album, with an orchestral feel to some songs.
of the songs that stand out to me, there's the slightly waltzy "les lignes de ma main".
and "l'enfant de ma mère", since it sounds different from his previous material.
i had listened to the new metric album "fantasies" when it leaked, and liked it, but not enough to buy. at the store, they started playing the song "collect call" on the speakers, and at that moment, i thought it was so good. i decided to get it as well.

fox troc
the last store i visited was le fox troc. i loved that their discs were placed in alphabetical order. but the selection was mostly popuar mainstream stuff. still, i found a few francophone cd's of interest.indochine - dancetaria
i've been liking them since seeing them last year. great show. i'd like to get all their albums, but i haven't had much luck finding them at the stores at a reasonable price.
jérôme minière - petit cosmonaute
i think he is french? i am not sure. i just remember hearing about this guy.
pierre lapointe - la forêt des mal-aimés
i kept reading good reviews about this guy. it is about time i check out some of his stuff. i remember seeing his video for "deux par deux rassemblés" and it made me laugh so much. c'est trop quétaine!
