new stuff

today, there were three new releases of interest. i pre-ordered them last week, and the parcel arrived this afternoon. nice!

i bought these albums without having heard them first; they're all from artists i like.

the cure - 4:13 dream
having seen them in concert earlier this year, i knew i had to get this album, no matter what it sounds like.

ryan adams - cardinology
another album by the prolific singer. i wonder if this leans towards the 'rock' or 'country' side...

snow patrol - a hundred million suns
a guilty pleasure: yeah, i like this band, even though they make radio-friendly music typically found in teen dramas.

plaza st-hubert

there was a sidewalk sale at plaza st-hubert this weekend. today, i went to check it out, recalling that there is a store selling music and films. i browsed through their second hand cd section, and picked up a few items.

amon tobin - permutation
i've been wanting to get some amon tobin cd's ever since i saw the video for "4-ton mantis". although this album does not contain that song, i got it anyway.

cocteau twins - lullabies to violaine
a compilation of their singles and ep's. although i am not much of a cocteau twins fan, i feel i should have some of their music in my collection.

lovely feathers - my best friend daniel
fun music to listen to. they were great, when i saw them live last year, easily upstaging the feature band they were opening for.

magneta lane - the constant lover
i remember seeing a video of this band. although i cannot remember the song, i think i liked it enough. besides, this cd was in the bargain section, so there is no harm in trying it.

patrick wolf - lycanthropy
my best find of the day. i was so happy to see this in the bargain section; i could hardly believe my luck! this is patrick wolf's debut album and it is amazing. i had ordered it at full price from amazon, only to have my order mixed up, and never getting the merchandise... and now i end up finding it at a super reduced price. yay! this is the main reason i love to shop at second hand stores; i never know what treasures i'll find, and sometimes at bargain prices too!

ryan adams - demolition
this gets me one step closer to collecting all of ryan adams' albums...

overall, i am very pleased at what i found today. especially that patrick wolf album...!

ryan adams

it's been a slow month, without a purchase nor a show...

ryan adams' new album "easy tiger" was released today. i had read some positive reviews about this one. although i was not impressed when i heard the internet leak some time ago, i liked the album enough to get it today.

some are the songs are a bit too country-ish for my liking. but most of these tunes are perfect to be played on a summer rainy day.

so far, my favourite track is "oh my god, whatever, etc."

winter vacation

last week was the release of ryan adams' third album of the year, "29".

after several listens in a row, i find myself liking it a lot, despite some bad reviews i've seen. the songs are soft and nice, the perfect soundtrack to a summer evening spent alone in the outdoors. i love the singer's voice, even though it sounds over-emotional at times.

ryan adams

yesterday after school, i passed by hmv, and got a copy of ryan adams & the cardinals' second release of the year "jacksonville city nights". this is probably to most country-sounding album i own. i never would have touched it if i wasn't already a fan of his earlier stuff. still, there are a couple of songs that i really like, such as the one duet with norah jones.

i can't wait to hear what the next album will sound like. out in december, according to the pitchfork.

ryan adams, atari teenage riot

purchased this week:

ryan adams - gold
at the store, i was actually looking for the new cd, his second release of the year, "jacksonville city nights". but i couldn't find it; i guess the store did not have it in stock. so instead, i got one of his older albums, from 2001, "gold". the album is kind of country, which is a genre i usually don't listen to. still, i like the songs here, and some fit well with the fall season.

atari teenage riot - burn, berlin, burn!
a second-hand dvd/cd store opened recently, so i went to check it out. they've got a large collection, but mostly mainstream or classic rock stuff, not what i'm interested in. i am sure that if i spent the time to go through all the rows, i would find some things i like. but i was in a hurry, so all i did was briefly browse through a couple of stacks. to my delight, i managed to find a copy of atari teenage riot "burn, berlin, burn!". it has been so long since i last listened to any atr, i had forgotten how much i used to like this type of stuff. digital hardcore! now i need to find more music like this...
